Apple Orchard

With fall fast approaching I thought it would be fun to take Connor to an apple orchard today. I did a little google search and found Alldredge Orchards in Platte City. To get Connor excited for the apple orchard we made an apple tree picture yesterday.

This morning we headed north to Platte City to check out the apple orchard. When we got there the owners told us there were a few Gala apples left to be picked and lots of Empire. We love Galas so off we went to search for the sweet crisp apples.

It was a challenge to find some good ones, because they were over picked. With a husband over 6 feet tall and an apple picker, Vinnie was able to reach to the top of the trees and we were able to find some good ones. Connor enjoyed watching the chickens peck at the apples and chasing them around the orchard. He even picked a few apples for the chickens.

After we paid for our apples we went to the bakery where Vinnie almost took down a poor old man down for the last apple crisp. We decided to let the old man have the apple crisp and we settled for an apple pie. Then we ordered lunch, which of course came with an apple as a side. Connor got mad when Vinnie was eating his apple though and said, "no, that's for the chickens!" We assured him that the chickens have plenty of apples to eat and that we can enjoy these. We also purchased some pumpkin bread and apple butter at the bakery. We haven't tried those yet, but we did try the apple pie that we settled for. It was delicious! We plan to go back in October when they will have a pumpkin patch. This time we will pre-order our apple crisp and we might pick up another delicious apple pie.

Merry Christmas Superman

Anyone with a toddler will tell you that their little ones get stuck on certain books, or movies, or toys for a period of time. Connor's choice of bedtime reading this week had been Twas the Night Before Christmas and Twas the Night Before Christmas. He owns two copies of the Christmas tale; one was a gift from Aunt Angie and another was from Mimi and it has a recording of her reading it. So every night this week, we listen to Mimi read the story and then I read the copy from Angie. In all fairness though tomorrow is June 25h, so only 6 months until Christmas and Connor is a Christmas baby. By Christmastime I will have it memorized and I will be able to recite it as we sit by the fire.

Connor also has a new fascination with super heroes. Grandma Heegn has a Spiderman puzzle at her house and he puts it together every time we go over there. Then one time after one of many doctors visits, he got half a dozen spiderman stickers. Now every time we go to the Dr, he will not leave without a Spiderman sticker.

Vinnie popped in Superman the other day to see how Connor would like it. Of course it was a hit with him and now he likes to lay across the arm of the couch with is arms and legs outstretched, telling us, "Look! Look! I'm Superman!." My parents will laugh at this because when I was just about the same age as Connor, my favorite movie was Annie. I had several scenes from Annie that I liked to act out, one of them being the climactic bridge scene were Annie is hanging off the edge of the bridge and Punjab rescues her. I would hang off the edge of the couch and say, "Punjab (aka Dad) save me!"

As you can see Connor has been a lot of fun lately. It's fun to see his imagination at work. We have also had a lot of adventures lately. In the past month Connor has been to his first Royals game, rode his first train, went to his first movie at the movie theater and was in his first wedding.

We went to a Friday night game so we also got to experience fireworks. Now every time we drive by the stadium Connor yells, "Royals! Fireworks! Boom!" I can't wait to take him to another game.

A few weeks ago we drove to Baldwin City, KS and got to ride Thomas the Train. Connor was mesmerized and spent the majority of the time looking out the window. Now every time he hears a train ( we can hear them regularly from our house) he says, "There's Thomas!"

Anyone that knows Connor, knows that he loves Toy Story. When I heard there was a Toy Story 3 coming out, I knew I wanted that to be Connor's first movie theater experience. Toy Story 3 did not disappoint us. It is just as good as the other 2, and Connor loved it too and was very well behaved at the theater.

This past weekend, my step brother Dave got married to Andrea and Connor got the privilege to be the ring bearer. He looked very handsome in his suit! Vinnie had to walk him down the isle though because it was a little overwhelming for him. He did great though and both my boys looked so handsome.

Well, that is my little update from the past several months. As you can see we have been pretty busy. I'm sure we will have a lot more fun before the summer is over.

The New Little Man Cave

We were lucky enough to score a very nice swing set for free! Connor loves playing on it, especially the slide. He's already gotten brave enough to stick his hands in the air when he goes down the slide. When he got home today, he went straight to the back yard to play on his swing set. Here are a few pictures. A big thank you to Dad, Kerry and neighbor Dean for helping Vinnie pick up the swing set and set it up. We all really appreciate it. Especially Connor!

S is for Slacker

I'm such a slacker blogger. Here I go and make promises to blog more often and I am already slacking. Sorry!

Well we had a nice Easter. Connor was more into hunting Easter eggs this year and he got to dye eggs, so that was fun. We had a nice time with the family at Angie's and weather cooperated and we got to have the Easter egg outside this year. Connor had a blast running all over Angie's yard, gathering eggs.

Today we did another No Time for Flashcards craft today. We made a caterpillar out of an egg carton. It was so much fun and turned out so cute. Connor did a good job painting. Maybe he'll follow in his cousin Cayman's footsteps become an artist someday!

And here are a few pics from Easter

A is for Alligator

We did our first No Time for Flash Cards activity tonight. What better way to start out, than with the first letter of the alphabet. We made an alligator face in the shape of an A. I wish I would have had the video camera going when I brought the craft box out because Connor let out a big gasp, did a little jig, and got such an excited look on his face when he saw all the markers, and paper. He was also excited about the pom poms and wanted to give one to Batta (our cat) to play with.

Here is a little glimpse of his excitement.

I drew out the letter A, then let Connor have at it and color away.

And boy, did he color. I was barely able to see the A anymore well enough to cut it out.

He put the teeth on all by himself

And the eyeballs...

He was so proud to show his work off to Daddy

We had so much fun working on our project. I can't wait to try more. Maybe we will break out the paints this weekend.

uh oh...

The other night the 3 of us were hanging out on the floor, coloring and playing. When Vinnie went to stand up, he farted. Connor got a worried look on his face and said, "uh oh, Daddy poop!"

Nice for the first post in 3 and a half months, huh? Sorry I haven't been keeping up with the blog. It's hard to find time to blog, but I will try to do a better job.

So the last 3 1/2 months in a nutshell; Connor had a great 2nd birthday and Christmas. He got lots and lots of fun toys. We converted his crib to a toddler bed and he loves it. He has done really well with the transition. We got to see Buzz and Woody at the Disney Rockin' Road Show, and Connor was mesmerized throughout the show. Connor has had a lot of ear infections so we got ear tubes put in and he seems to be doing well with those so far. It looks like they will be put to the test. He just came down with a cold, so we will see if his cold turns into an ear infection.

So those are the big things that Connor has been up to since I last updated. I will try to update more often so I can tell funny stories like the "Daddy poop" story. We are looking forward to nice weather so we can get outside and play. It has been a long cold Winter, and even though the calendar says it is Spring, right now I am looking outside at several inches of snow on the ground.

The other thing that I am excited about, is I found a cool website that has some great learning and craft ideas. It's called No Time for Flashcards. I just got home from Target just where I was able to find everything on the basic supply list to get started on all the crafts! I'm so excited! Connor loves to color so I think he will enjoy making all these crafts, and he will be learning at the same time. The only thing is, he doesn't like getting his hands dirty (silly kid) so he isn't a big fan of finger painting. We'll have to work on getting him over that.

I'll leave you with a few recent pics. These were taken on one of the only nice weather days we've had recently. Hopefully we will have more soon!
